See that adorable little guy above? (I'm assuming it's a "he"). That sweet looking little Clouded Leopard would have made my son his mid-afternoon snack today were it not for the protective glass seperating him from the zoo visitors. Not once, not twice, not three times.. we're talking at least 5 times the adorable feline slammed into the glass trying to get at Matthew.
We went to the zoo today, and after seeing the tarantula (the one thing Lauren insisted on checking out while we were there), we headed through the rest of the Australian exhibit towards the cute Clouded Leopards. Matthew was squirmy, so I held him facing outward. I don't know if it was his continued squirminess, the fact his belly was facing outward, or that he was "bit-sized", that attracted somebody's attention. But almost immediately after I located the little guy up on a huge rock, I saw him focus his attention on Matthew. I watched (as did other zoo visitors) as he crouched down, and slowly made his way down the embankment. I waited for the inevitable pounce, and sure enough.. the leopard smacked rignt into the glass. Everybody kind of flipped out for a moment, and shortly after, he did it again. This attracted the attention of the other leopard in the enclosure, who seemed more interested in what his little buddy was doing.. not in Matthew (thank goodness). Yet again, the leopard pounced. You would think he'd grow tired of smacking his head and body, but no. Seeing as how we were practically right up on the glass, and seeing as how the leopard was obviously able to get within inches of us, he was all over that glass- pawing, teeth bared. My son.. well he just had no clue that he was being lusted after. LOL Damn, I wish I had my camera!!
