82 yr old fighting crosswalk ticket.
This is SO not surprising. This happened in my home town, and I can tell you that the cops there write up just about everything. The police officer in the video claims that she wasn't ticketed for not crossing the street quickly, but because she started walking while the red hand was lit. Well frankly, the timer set on these lights is stupid. And Foothill Blvd is a pretty wide street (5 lanes including the center turn lane). I have crossed that intersection many a time, and had it that damn hand start flashing almost immediately after starting to cross. It's rediculous. I have seen many an elderly person cross to catch the bus right there. It's assinine that now the amount of time it takes them to do just that, is being scrutinized by the cops.
(David is more than irked. It reminds him of the time he was crossing the street not too far from there, 10:30 at night, with no cars around. A squad car actually drove upon him like he just robbed a bank (tires squealing, etc), and gave him a ticket. Now, he was not crossing at the crosswalk, BUT when I took my driver's test in CA, the law clearly states that it is considered jaywalking IF you're obstructing traffic. And that was just not the case.)
