Proud mommy moment.

Lauren told me that some lady took her out of her classroom today, and brought her to a "library room". She asked Lauren to read three books to her, and then the lady wrote some stuff down and asked her a few questions about the stories. Afterward, she took her back to class, and told the teacher which books (I'm assuming what level) Lauren can actually read, or should be reading.

I asked Lauren if any of the other kids were taken out- today, or any other day that she could remember. She said no (although it's possible she just had no clue either way). Lauren is a great reader.. and she also loves writing. She writes cards to people all the time. So when I heard this, I thought perhaps somebody got the clue that Lauren's current ability is beyond what is required of her by the end of kindergarten. A little while ago, her teacher called me and said that after discussion with two of the 1st grade teachers (as well as the Principal), they want to put Lauren in two 1/2 hr reading group sessions- with the 1st grade class- each week. And I think she will do writing with them, as well. They just have to figure out when she'll start (I think within the next 2 weeks), and whose classroom she'll be in.

I'm excited, of course. And proud. Though how and when to bring this up with Lauren?

(makes me wonder.. Will Matthew's issues hinder the desire by teachers to push for this same kind of deal when he's in kindergarten?)
