CRESTVIEW, Fla. -- A 16-year-old Florida girl who hit her father when he tried to spank her has been charged with misdemeanor domestic battery.

An Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office report said the father told a deputy that he was attempting to spank the girl when she turned around and struck him in the face with her fist.

The report said she tried to hit him several more times before leaving with friends.

Both father and daughter said the argument started over an item that had been broken. She acknowledged that when he went to spank her, she punched him, the report said.

Does anybody else see a couple of things wrong here? First off, why the hell is this dad trying to spank a 16 yr old? Is this really the first/best option to punishing a teenager? Surely not. Secondly, while I don't agree with her hitting him, what the hell did he expect her to do? Bend over and take it?

I've been in this situation. As a 16 yr old. Only I had my hair pulled, was on the ground, with a mother flailing a paddle in the air over me. Did I once strike her? No.. because honestly, I was more afraid of what would have happened if I did. Secondly, I just wanted to get the hell out of there. Did I call her a name (under my breath) as I managed to get out the house? HELL YEAH!! Did I call the cops on my mom? Probably wouldn't have made a difference, and I would have been too afraid of what would have come out of it.

Point is. Don't be a dick. Don't spank your 16 yr old. Come up with a better form of discipline (preferably before they reach middle school, for crying out loud). If you're going to be a dick, expect your teenage child to do what this kid did.. expect THEM to call the cops on YOU.
