According to the news this morning, a man went to check his mail only to receive a package with a deadly spitting cobra inside. Police (who seem pretty sure it was intended to either scare or kill the man) sent the snake to the L.A. Zoo. (And as punishment to who knows), the snake will be euthanized.

Why does the snake have to be killed? Can't he be sent back to his natural habitat somewhere? Or sent to a nature reserve? Just seems stupid to me.
