D and I are going to give our turtles away. I'm not terribly happy about it, partly because I HATE the idea of giving away pets. I took them on, and I should be able to care for them "til death do us part". But we have two turtles (at least one of them growing normally) that live in a fish tank- hardly the proper environment. The female can't lay eggs, they have no land to crawl up on to get out of the water, and barely any room to move. It's cruel to keep them here.

I got Sammy while I was in college- he belonged to a younger cousin of mine who wasn't able to care for him. Penny we got as Sammy's companion. I refuse to dump them in a river somewhere, because I have no clue what could happen to them. There are people who go hunting for who knows what, just for a meal. I'm not letting anyone munch these turtles for dinner. So the most humane thing to do (now, before we move) is to give them a good home. The lady told me someone with a large estate, and a pond fit for turtles, will be the most likely adoptive parent. That makes me happy.
