Mel Gibson apologizes for 'despicable' statements during arrest.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable," Gibson said in a statement released to Access Hollywood, a celebrity television show.
As for what I bolded, I'm not sure I buy that somebody would start spouting off things like "f...ing Jews," adding that "the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.", and yet not really believe it to be true. You can say and do a lot of messed up things when you're drunk, but where the hell does that kind of thinking come from?
I typically enjoy movies by (and with) Mel Gibson. And maybe some would argue he was having a bad day, was embarrassed by being caught driving drunk, and that we should give him the benefit of the doubt. But I can't respect somebody who 1.) not only believes that to be true, but then 2.) has the balls (or lack thereof) to say it out loud.
