Ok. If you're reading this, I really want you to leave a comment and give your opinion. It would mean a lot to me.

Ok. Let's preface this by saying that I have some people in my family (dad's side) that are quite overweight. Or have been. Obese, to be quite frank. One of my aunts has had a struggle for years, but when I saw her back in August, she'd lost a LOT of weight from the last time I'd seen her. In fact, she probably hadn't been that thin in decades. I was really happy for her.

So this last weekend, my sister had a birthday party for my nephew. Invited where both sides of the family- mom's and dad's. Now, my sister said that standing around were my step-dad, my dad's youngest sister (the one with the weight issues for years), her middle son, and then my mom's middle sister. They're standing there, and my step-dad makes a comment to my cousin (who is 14 now) which basically was "Wow, you've grown!". (He really has- the kid is HUGE! And I don't mean obese. He's just damn tall, and has a "fro" to match). So then my step-dad turns around and says the same thing to his mother (my aunt)! The other aunt (my mom's sister) didn't say anything, but apparently was close to slapping him. I can just imagine the look on her face. The fact that he would make such a comment! I don't know if he didn't realize who he was talking to, or thought he was being funny, or what. But even hearing it from my sister, I was shocked!

So I'm telling David about it, and he can't believe anybody is taking it seriously, or finding it offensive. He thinks that anybody who found offense to it was basically just being stupid.

Ok. Would YOU make a comment like that? Tell somebody with weight issues (even if they'd lost a hundred pounds) "wow, you've grown too!"?? Or if you heard somebody say that to such a person, would you not be like WTF?! Or is it just a guy being a guy, and us women being stupid cows for being so insensitive? I honestly want to know. I asked him what he would think if somebody said that to his own mother? Or let's say if I said to one of his neices "wow, you're getting old!" then turned around and said the same thing to his mother. Apparently he thinks she wouldn't bat an eye. Either he's full of shit, or totally daft.
