A Tiger being a Tiger. That's my take.
S.F. Zoo's Tatiana acted her part as alpha predator, experts say
"She was everything that a tiger is supposed to be," said big-cat expert Ronald Tilson. "She was essentially shot and killed for being a tiger."
This is flat out how I feel about the situation. Yes, it's very sad that somebody was mauled by a tiger. Obviously the man's family (frankly, the families of all 3 men) must be in shock. How does this happen? How could it happen?
I don't know who exactly is to blame. The zoo, for apparently making the wall too short? The men, for perhaps taunting the creature? No idea.. Should the tiger have been shot at if the officers felt they were about to be attacked as well? Perhaps- I suppose you have your own instinct to kill when a live, 300lb tiger is standing there in front of you, with nothing to stop her from mauling you to death. It's either kill or be killed.
That said, where the hell were zookeepers (who must have heard of the situation by the time police got there), with tranquilizer guns?
Tilson did say in the article: "Once the animal is out of its primary enclosure, it's pretty much shoot to kill, ...You don't have a discussion - you kill it. A tranquilizer gun would take too long and you might miss."
I have to wonder how much time passed between this incident and when police got there. Why didn't employees in the zoo have guns? They had to wait for the cops?
I just hate that the tiger is being labeled (by some) as some killer who was out for blood. She was a tiger! Do you really expect any less?
