On a more serious note, his mom is in the hospital over night, being treated for pneumonia. If that wasn't (weren't?) enough, she apparently has Emphysema. She may have had it for a while- the family is waiting for more answers on the diagnosis. My grandfather had the same thing- I know from watching him suffer just how bad it can get. I also know that D's mom is much healthier in general than my grandpa ever was- so I think that if she takes this opportunity to perhaps change some of her habits, she can slow the progression. Of course that's easier said than done.
D already knows I feel this way, but I just have to say that his mother is the best mother-in-law a person could ask for. She is probably the best mom a person could ask for. The great thing about that is that her kids adore her, and I have no doubts they're going to take care of her (when she'll need caring) as best they can.
