Some dog and cat excitement happening over the last several days. I'm more or less copying this from an IM transcript (between D and I- or is that me and David? Alan can clear that up for me LOL), right after each event. (so please pardon typos and lack of capitalization).

Monday:

the last 10 minutes are way more excitement than I've had in.. i don't know when. first off, we came home from taking (kiddo girl) to school, and apparently Mina made herself busy pulling out stuffing from the comforter (which I'm thinking is not a good idea to leave in there with her). then i took her outside to (do her business). i figured since you weren't too concerned about it, i'd let her out w/out the leash. eh.. not such a great idea. she went, but then she ran right over to the corner and squirmed her way out. DAMN is she fast. i flew into the house to grab the leash, and ran out the front door. i didn't have time to close the back door.. and (buddy guy) was following me, and as i'm looking to see where in the street she was, i'm yelling at him to stay inside. she was down past (the next door neighbor's) house, because suddenly i saw her run past me from that area, fast as lightening. she ran across the street, behind the new neighbor's house and then down a couple houses. she found something in the bushes worth sniffing out, thank god.. because i was able to grab her. i took her right home and let her off the leash, forgetting the back door was still open. i yelled OH SHIT.. and she ran out and straight for the corner.

(I was able to stop her in time, thank goodness!)

Tuesday:

sigh. the cats were outside, sniffing the grass, etc... i let the dog out after about 10-15 min to go potty, and left the door open if the cats wanted to go (back in). i didn't have mina on the leash. let's just say fern is way the f*ck in the tree right now. i mean, WAY up there. obviously i put the dog back inside.. magick is still out there around the deck. mina listened when i told her no, to leave magick alone.. but apparently fern ran (it's drizzling slightly). i was standing under the tree for about 5 minutes just talking to her and she wanted to come down.. but i think she actually went up higher. so i'm going to go out there.. try to figure out how to attract her down. i know she was up high in a tree before, but that was in our first apt here in ohio and i don't think the tree was that big.

So.. Fern did come back down. It started to rain a bit more (and pretty much hasn't stopped raining for the last couple of days LOL), but I grabbed the 7' ladder and set it up right next to the tree (which thankfully has several thick branches to hold on to). I got up as high as I could, hoping that if I was closer, Fern wouldn't be so scared. I brought with me a container with vitamins in it - that sounds like a treats container when you shake it - but as usual, Fern is not attracted to that sound. In any case, she did start to come down the tree, but then got herself wedged between a fork in the branches. She stayed like that for about 10 minutes, quite upset that she couldn't seem to move, and that she was also being rained on. I went back into the house to call D and let him know what was up, but when I looked back out the window, Fern had somehow gotten out of the fork, and was low enough in the tree for me to grab her. Which I did. And thank goodness for that!

*Oh, we have since "fixed" that one corner of the fence. Basically the fence is coming apart from the post, on the top and bottom. We took some zip ties and temporarily closed up the gaps. We just need to replace the whole fence, though. The neighbors and their yap dogs next door keep saying they will, but so far, nothing.
