'Sex' sells: Women give Carrie & Co. $55.7M debut
"The movie landed at No. 5 on the all-time list among R-rated films, behind "The Matrix Reloaded" ($91.8 million), "The Passion of the Christ" ($83.8 million), "300" ($70.9 million) and "Hannibal" ($58 million)."
"'This is a blockbuster for women. This was to women what `Indiana Jones' and `Star Wars,' let's say, are to men,' said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box office tracker Media By Numbers."
I have every intent on seeing this movie. I nearly went this weekend, but it didn't work out (and I honestly don't care if I see it in a theater by myself). I wouldn't call myself a die-hard fan, by any means. (I don't own any books, cd's, mugs, etc). Nor do I really feel I can relate to any of the 4 main characters. I think what I enjoy about it is that their life experiences are so different from my own. Maybe I see all I missed out on as a single woman (all 4 years or so between high school and marriage)- though really I didn't miss out on anything. (Grass is always greener.. right?) In any case, I have probably seen every episode 2-3 times thanks to HBO On Demand. Every 3-4 weeks, a new set of episodes pops up. I watch them w/in a few days, and wait impatiently for the next set. It's a never-ending cycle. :P It's mindless entertainment, and funny to boot!
